Appendix B: Printing in Microsoft Windows

Printer/Form Control Options

These are options you can use in the Printer Options and Form Control fields in the Printers and Forms files in System Administration.

  • -orientation is the report orientation; valid choices are =Portrait and =Landscape.
  • -collate means that multiple copies of the report are collated, if present (not supported by most printer drivers).
  • -pitch is the pitch to use in printing the report.
  • -font is the name of the font to use in printing the report.
  • -ruler prints a ruler on each page, if present.
  • -width is the width of the form; use 'i' or 'm' as a suffix to indicate inches or millimeters (eg. 8.5i or 23m).
  • -length is the length of the form; use 'i' or 'm' as a suffix to indicate inches or millimeters (eg. 8.5i or 23m).
  • -interactive shows the printer setup dialog to the user if present; if “=none”, any windows for network printing are suppressed.
  • -source is the paper source (not supported by many printer drivers). See the list of valid paper sources, below.
  • -oem translates characters to the OEM character set, if present.
  • -ansi translates characters to the ANSI character set, if present.
  • -raw passes the report to the printer without translation, allowing you to embed escape codes in your report file. If –raw is not used, the Windows print spooler filters out escape codes you may wish to pass to your printer.
