Chapter 3: Getting Started
Basic Steps for Initial Setup
Initial Setup procedures are designed to establish master file records and to facilitate transfer of information from existing records to General Ledger.
The first step in Initial Setup involves entering master file information for the application. At the minimum, data must be entered into the following files:
Other master files are not required now or may not apply to your company. For those that do apply, you may choose to enter them now in Initial Setup or wait to enter them later in Live Operations.
In the next step, run Create Balance Records to create the necessary balance records for the current fiscal year plus as many prior fiscal years as you wish to keep for history. Then, as discussed in Establishing a Transition Date, you may opt to use Opening Entries functions to establish the balances in each account. If so, print the Trial Balance and account history reports to verify the information that you entered.
Process Initial Setup is then run to ensure that required records have been entered accurately. An error log is created if any mistakes are found. Once the errors have been corrected, Initial Setup reports should be reprinted to check information for accuracy.
The final step in Initial Setup is End Initial Setup. Once this menu option is completed, the system begins Live Operations.
