Chapter 8: Routine operation and compatibility

Backups, restoration, and another server

Back up the native files with their matching structures and required administration configuration. Protect the backup of System Administration as carefully as the key vault. Keep the exact system passphrase and applicable file and group keys available through the documented recovery route.

Native encrypted-file backups retain their encrypted storage. CSV exports, reports, spreadsheets, application-generated files, and other outputs need their own handling. APPX data file encryption does not automatically encrypt those outputs or protect every other file on the server.

For restoration on another APPX server, follow Share encrypted files across servers. Preserve the actual FMS and path mappings and test the restored copy before allowing application users onto it.

If the administration files are lost or damaged, restore an appropriate administration backup or re-establish the exact settings from the protected key records. Contact APPX Support when the required configuration cannot be restored. Do not assume that physical recovery substitutes for a key backup or that a new passphrase can open an old encrypted file.
