Chapter 3: Encrypt PROSPECT

Export the encrypted file to CSV

Yes, an encrypted APPXIO datafile can be exported to CSV. APPX reads it through the normal file manager and writes the record values to the export. There is no need to decrypt the stored file first.

  1. Keep PROSPECT encrypted and correctly configured.
  2. Select only PROSPECT in Data File Management.
  3. Choose Export Files (CSV), retain the same heading choice used for the original comparison copy, and click Proceed.
  4. Check the exported-record count and compare the CSV with the original export. For a spreadsheet copy, a separate export can include headings.

The headerless CSV exported while PROSPECT was encrypted matched the original export byte for byte in this test. Exporting did not remove encryption from the stored APPXIO file.

The CSV itself is unencrypted. Restrict its directory and any copies, use an approved protected transfer method, and remove temporary copies according to the site's retention procedures after verification. Include spreadsheet copies, downloads, shared folders, and backups of export folders in that handling. Keep the untouched conversion export separate from a copy edited in a spreadsheet.
