Chapter 1: Before You Start

What Works Better in Later Releases

The later configurations below have passed their own tests. Follow the linked cookbook's complete engine, gateway, ASQL, driver and client setup before using its result. Replacing only the driver on this 5.5.2 gateway does not establish those improvements.

Capability or capacityThis editionVerified later configuration and procedure
Access importRepeated native imports failed with the supplied Dharma 9.01 x86 driver.Import and all seven records/nine fields passed with matching 5.5.3 engine/gateway/ASQL, the separate official Dharma 14.01 x86 driver and Access 32-bit. Follow 5.5.3 Access import. The 5.5.4 Access recipe also passed its own configuration.
Reported table and name capacitiesSupplied driver reports 500 table columns and 32-character column/identifier names. The tested Dharma 14.01 driver with the matching 5.5.3 or 5.5.4 gateway reports 2,000 table columns and 64-character column/identifier names. Read 5.5.3 limits or 5.5.4 limits. These are reported capacities, not completed maximum-width import tests. Measured on 2026-10-20, the 5.5.3 and 5.5.4 gateways still refuse names over 32 characters with -20248 Identifier too long. The 6.2.1 64-bit gateway accepts names up to 64 characters with its 64-bit driver and 64-bit clients.
Column names that are SQL function namesRefused with -20049 Keyword used for a name, for example SUFFIX, PREFIX and LENGTH.Accepted as plain names by the 5.5.3 and 5.5.4 engines and gateways with their tested Dharma 14.01 drivers, and by the 6.2.1 64-bit configuration, measured 2026-10-20. Those gateways refuse a few other words instead, such as DAY; compare 5.5.4 SQL name rules. A newer driver alone was not tested.

No SQL statement-length increase has been verified between these configurations. Each driver reports 35,000 characters, while execution probes fail below that advertised value. Use this edition's limits and observed errors. Later 6.2.1 client configurations have not completed acceptance and are not presented as improvements here.
