Chapter 1: Before You Start
What You Need and Where to Begin
Connect 32-bit Windows applications to APPX 5.5.2 using a single ODBC data source. Configure the gateway, import the DMO COUNTRY sample, then use the verified recipe for WinSQL, Excel or PowerShell.
Verified route: clean APPX 5.5.2, its matching gateway and ASQL package, and the supplied Dharma 9.01 driver. ASQL import, WinSQL, Excel and PowerShell pass the seven-record COUNTRY sample, including all nine field values. LibreOffice Base passes with its saved query in direct SQL mode; ordinary table browsing and parsed queries failed. Calc import and saved-file reopen/password/refresh pass all seven records and nine fields. Crystal Reports retrieves seven records and four fields through an ODBC (RDO) SQL command. Access import fails on repeated attempts with the supplied driver; the nearest verified Access success is the 5.5.3 configuration with Dharma 14.01 x86.
Use the driver and ASQL supplied in the 5.5.2 package. The stock driver's catalog query passed in this Windows configuration. The 5.5.3 and 5.5.4 compatibility-driver instructions do not apply automatically to this edition.
Check the tested versions and client bitness, record the server names and ports, and choose which components to install.
Requirements
- An installed and licensed APPX 5.5.2 system, an authorized APPX login, and its server name and login-manager port.
- The matching 5.5.2 ODBC gateway and ASQL packages, with the runtime checks if a component fails to start.
- Administrator access for installation and System DSN creation. Use an ordinary account for the client recipes.
- A 32-bit client: WinSQL32, Microsoft 365 Excel or Access, Crystal Reports 2016, LibreOffice Calc or Base, or Windows PowerShell.
- The DMO database and DMO application with the COUNTRY file, for the sample recipes.
