Chapter 5: Connect APPX to ChartDirector

Capture a Render Failure

Always check 0CD .CHART RENDER immediately after rendering. A nonblank result means the chart has failed. Inspect 0CD .CHART RENDER ERROR for details; it can contain PHP diagnostics or HTML. Displaying an old chart after a failed call can conceal the problem.

During development, set 0CD SESSION VIEW PHP to Y and reproduce the failure. APPX downloads and displays the generated PHP. Save it privately, then run it through the same PHP CLI and php.ini used by the APPX session. Set the variable back to N afterward or end the session; the setting applies to later charts in that session.

php -l generated-chart.php
php generated-chart.php

Use -l to check syntax, then execute the script to test library loading and rendering. A successful syntax check does not exercise ChartDirector. Preserve the first complete diagnostic and its line number when reporting a failure.
