Chapter 2: Install on Rocky Linux

Install Natively on Rocky Linux 9

Rocky Linux 9.8 provides a native route for APPX 5.5.4 x86 and both APPX 6.2.1 engine builds. This avoids a compatibility container when you can choose the host operating system. Use the latest Rocky 9 updates and reboot into the installed kernel before testing.

For a 32-bit APPX engine, follow the i686 package and libtar build recipe in the next topic directly on the Rocky 9 host. For APPX 6.2.1 x64, use the native libtar rebuild topic, changing the local RPM suffix from .el10.local to .el9.local. Keep the x86_64 and i686 packages matched to their respective engines.

Use Rocky 9 AppStream's php:8.3 stream and its current x64 php-cli package for every APPX engine choice. The executable and ini paths are the same on Rocky 9 and 10. Keep each APPX release/build in a separate directory, complete normal APPX registration, and configure its own 0CD parameters.

The native Rocky 9 tests rendered the shipped 1CD B01. SIMPLE BAR CHART through APPX 5.5.4 x86, 6.2.1 x86 and 6.2.1 x64. The architecture and PHP invocation are independent: native 32-bit APPX invoked the same x64 PHP CLI successfully.
