Chapter 2: Install and Check APPX ODBC

Install the 6.2.1 Client Driver

This step installs the 32-bit Dharma 14.01 client driver from APPX 6.2.1 for use with APPX 5.5.3. The helper extracts six DLLs from the download, registers the driver and updates the default AppxODBC DSN. It leaves the existing appx dictionary and matching ASQL program in place.

  1. On the Windows client, download the official APPX 6.2.1 32-bit driver and ASQL package. Save it as AppxODBCdriver-ASQL-621-x86.exe.

The verified package SHA-256 is:

0453e2a800c1da5132c0f6feaab55619c941d97b62d68e9724dd0c3bba86a23d

Check the download from Command Prompt:

certutil.exe -hashfile AppxODBCdriver-ASQL-621-x86.exe SHA256
  1. Download setup-553-compatibility-driver.ps1 into the same folder and read it before running it.
  2. Open Command Prompt as administrator in that folder. Run the helper to replace the existing data source under its default name:
powershell.exe -NoProfile -File .\setup-553-compatibility-driver.ps1 -Installer .\AppxODBCdriver-ASQL-621-x86.exe -ReplaceDsn

For a separate client computer, append -GatewayHost gateway.example.com, replacing the example with the gateway's actual hostname. The script verifies the official package and all six extracted DLL hashes, creates a separate driver directory, and registers a new driver alias and a 32-bit System DSN. With -ReplaceDsn, it backs up the existing AppxODBC registration before replacing that data source. Existing driver files and driver registrations are preserved. Its default driver folder is C:\APPX-ODBC-553-Client.

ASQL 5.5.3 requires the data source's enumeration label to be exactly AppxODBC Driver. The script supplies that label while retaining the DSN's explicit path to the separate Dharma 14 driver. Keep the original 5.5.3 driver registration intact.

  1. Check the script's displayed Driver, Host, Database and Service values. The Driver ends in APPX-ODBC-553-Client\dhsodbc.dll; Host names the gateway; Database is appx; the optional ODBC Service is blank. The helper preserves that empty setting; the tested driver uses its default sqlnw TCP-port lookup. Service and the blank default.

Next, Check the Default AppxODBC Data Source.
