Chapter 1: Before You Start
What You Need and Where to Begin
Connect 32-bit Windows applications to APPX 5.5.3 using a single ODBC data source. The verified clients include LibreOffice Base and Calc. Configure the gateway, import the DMO COUNTRY sample, then follow the recipe for WinSQL, Excel, Access, Crystal Reports or PowerShell.
Client driver for current Windows. This recipe keeps the APPX 5.5.3 engine, gateway and matching ASQL Dictionary Importer, and uses the updated 32-bit Dharma 14.01 client driver distributed in APPX's official 6.2.1 package. It preserves the default appx dictionary and AppxODBC data source. The driver extraction steps extract only the client driver and required runtime files; they do not replace ASQL or upgrade the APPX application server.
Check the tested versions and client bitness, record the server names and ports, and choose which components to install.
Requirements
- An installed and licensed APPX 5.5.3 system, an authorized APPX login, and its server name and login-manager port.
- The matching 5.5.3 ODBC gateway and ASQL packages, plus the compatibility driver and gateway runtime files.
- Administrator access for installation and System DSN creation. Use an ordinary account for the client recipes.
- A 32-bit client: WinSQL32, Microsoft 365 Excel or Access, Crystal Reports 2016, LibreOffice Calc or Base, or Windows PowerShell.
- The DMO database and DMO application with the COUNTRY file, for the sample recipes.
