Input Interactive Phases
Each mode in an APPX input process can be further divided into one of six interactive phases: data addition, data modification, data inquiry, data deletion, data scroll, and key entry. The relationship between mode and interactive phase is shown in Table 3-2-1 below.

| Add | Data Addition | Screen displayed for data entry. |
| Data Modification | Record on scrolling display selected for editing. | |
| Data Inquiry | Record on scrolling display selected for Inquiry. Record already written to disk and may beheld by another user. | |
| Data Scroll | Scrolling display being populated. | |
| Change | Data Modification | Record displayed for editing. |
| Key Entry | Key field(s) displayed for selection of record. | |
| Data Scroll | Scrolling display being populated. | |
| Delete | Data Deletion | Record displayed for deletion. |
| Key Entry | Key field(s) displayed for selection of record. | |
