Chapter 3-14: Using Character Based Image Editor
Defining Screen Characteristics
In addition to defining display attributes for items on images, APPX permits you to establish display attributes (characteristics) for various regions of an image through the use of Image Editor options.
To define the characteristics of a region on an image (or editing an existing region), position the cursor at the starting row/column and select option 13 for bright, underlining, inverse video, and color.
After you select option 13, APPX prompts you to position the cursor at the ending row/column and select enter . This establishes the size of the region. Then APPX displays a specification overlay to enter the desired characteristics.
The Define Characteristics overlay, shown in Figures 3-14-25 and 3-14-26, establishes the display attributes for specific regions on an image. You access this overlay by positioning the cursor on the starting position (first row, first column) of the region, selecting option 13, and then positioning the cursor on the ending position (last row, last column) of the region and selecting enter .
The specifications that follow are a composite of those you see when defining characteristics for items on menu, input, output, and inquiry images. If a specification only displays for a specific type of image, the definition indicates so.

The Define Characteristics overlays contain some of the following fields, depending on the type of process.
· Bright? for menu and input images, determines whether or not text within the region appears bright on the screen.
· Underline? governs whether or not text within the region appears with an underline on the screen or in output.
· Inverse? for menu and input images, determines whether or not text within the region appears with its light and dark areas reversed on the screen.
· Bold? for output images, indicates whether or not text within the region appears bold in the output.
· Expand? for output images, controls whether or not text prints in expanded format.
· Foreground Color indicates the color the field value is displayed in. Select from a drop-down list of colors. Leave this field blank to use the default foreground color.
· Background Color indicates the color the field box is displayed in. Select from a drop-down list of colors. Leave this field blank to use the default background color.
The default for these fields is blank.
