Chapter 2-1: Data Dictionary Overview
Display Mask Relationship (Data Dictionary vs. Image)
Both the data dictionary (for a domain or field) and the process facility (for an item on an image) provide display masks for numeric or date/time items. Data dictionary default display masks are assumed at the image item level unless specifically overridden in the item specifications.
You can override the dictionary display mask for either a numeric or date/time item in an input, output, or inquiry process. For a numeric item, you can enter a new display mask to alter the format of a dictionary display mask and, with an optional specification, elect to override the number of characters that display. For a date/time item, your display mask overrides the parts of a date/time field that display and/or the format in which they display. Refer to Numeric Item Specifications and Date/Time Item Specifications in Chapter 3-14: Using the Character Based Image Editor for a discussion of image masks.
