APPX 5 Installation Instructions

APPX 5 includes many new features and bug fixes. As always, before upgrading your APPX production system, you are strongly encouraged to install APPX 5 into a test environment where you can verify the compatibility of your applications. APPX 5 has been thoroughly tested but, because of the complexity of computer software (including the APPX Utility), there will certainly be bugs. Consequently, there is no guarantee that your applications will be completely compatible with this significant new release. It is your responsibility to test your applications to ensure that they are compatible with this new release of APPX and to make any changes that may be necessary to maintain compatibility. Finally, before upgrading your production system, make a backup of your applications and your data. Your computer software and your data are important assets of your organization. Please be prudent and take the steps needed to protect this important investment.

Open SSL

Installation of APPX 5 may also require that you install Open SSL on your APPX server.

Notes:

After you install APPX, you will need to go to Design File Management in System Administration and run Create Files for each of your applications. This will create the new design files that are needed by APPX 5.
The first time you enter into Application Design for an application, APPX will automatically synchronize the Widget file for the application. All "Raw Text" widgets in Output processes will be converted to be Label widgets.
If you enable the APPX Login Manager Service to use SSL logins or if you enable the APPXIO file encryption option, you must have a current copy of Open SSL installed on your system. APPX will automatically find the necessary OpenSSL libraries if they are installed into the usual locations with the usual names. However, if APPX can't find the necessary libraries, you can set an environment variable to tell APPX where to find the SSL libraries.
