You use Printers File Maintenance from the Configuration menu to identify and describe the attributes of each printer at your installation. The name you assign to a printer here is the one you enter in other system administration screens when specifying a printer. The Printers File Maintenance screen is shown in Figure 2-13.
Figure 2-13. Printers File Maintenance Screen
The Printers File Maintenance screen contains the following fields:
· Printer Name specifies a unique identifier for each different printer at your installation. This is the key to the printer file, so each name must be unique. If, for example, you have a low- and a high-speed line printer, and a laser printer, you could assign names of LINE HIGH, LINE LOW, and LASER1 (the 1 allows you to add a second and subsequent laser printer later). You can also refer to printers by location, or simply assign them unique numbers.
· Description allows you to enter a longer description of the printer.
· System ID identifies the name of the printer as it is defined in Control Panel, Printers on Windows or NT systems. This identifier is both case and spacing sensitive. On Unix and NT systems, this field is not explicitly referenced. However, it is defined as an alternate unique key, therefore a unique value should be entered for it. Be sure to put the hardware device address for your printer in the Printer Device field on the continuation overlay.
When you press Enter from this screen, the Printers File Maintenance overlay described in the next section appears.
