Update Process Concepts

Update processes update and transfer data between files. The update process permits the execution of statements that are not associated with either an input or an output process.

The structure of the update process is similar to the structure of the output process. Both include process control files, frames, event points, and automatic children. As with output processes, frames for update processes are divided into classes, in this case Record, Start of Range, and End of Range class frames.

Unlike output processes, however, update processes do not format data for presentation to a user. As a result, they do not use images, and do not include report or page class frames.
