APPX 5 Installation Instructions

Line: 23 to 23
APPX 5 includes many new features and bug fixes. As always, before upgrading your APPX production system, you are strongly encouraged to install APPX 5 into a test environment where you can verify the compatibility of your applications. APPX 5 has been thoroughly tested but, because of the complexity of computer software (including the APPX Utility), there will certainly be bugs. Consequently, there is no guarantee that your applications will be completely compatible with this significant new release. It is your responsibility to test your applications to ensure that they are compatible with this new release of APPX and to make any changes that may be necessary to maintain compatibility. Finally, before upgrading your production system, make a backup of your applications and your data. Your computer software and your data are important assets of your organization. Please be prudent and take the steps needed to protect this important investment.

Known Issues:

Changed:
<
<
  • The APPX ODBC Driver is not functioning reliably in the initial release of APPX 5.0. Customers who use that feature to gain access to APPX data from external products, such as Crystal Reports or Excel, are advised to delay upgrading until this issue is resolved.
  • On the HP PA Risc platform only, please be advised that the APPX Oracle database interface is not functioning reliably, and those customers using the Oracle interface on HP PA Risc servers should delay upgrading until this issue is resolved in APPX 5.0.1, which will require HPUX 11v1.
  • The new Source Code Control Feature is not yet fully operational and should not be used.
  • Special fonts in output processes are not being loaded properly for PDF output. If you have output processes that use special fonts such as a barcode font, these output processes will not print correctly. Update: It turns out that special fonts work fine on Linux and Unix. However, the method for using special fonts with Windows has changed. Please refer to the page for UsingCustomFonts.

  • On Windows servers, the way special fonts (ie, Bar Codes, etc) are installed and used has changed due to the new PDF libraries included in Release 5. You will need to install the fonts and possibly modify the Resources that use them. This method also works with pre 5 Appx installations, so you can make this change in your existing installation prior to upgrading to Release 5. Unix/Linux installations do not require any changes. Please refer to the page for UsingCustomFonts for more information.
