Differences in Managing System Admin Files

In APPX, the procedures for creating and managing the system administration files are virtually the same as they are for managing data files. Data files store the records that are associated with applications such as Payroll, Order Processing, and Inventory. There are very few differences between the two sets of screens and the information you enter for them. Specific differences are summarized here:

·    Database Management offers an additional option to restructure any files in an application, if changes in the structure of the records warrant it. The Restructure option is not available on the System Administration File Management menu because the structure of the system administration files is fixed and not subject to change.

·    The names of the system administration files are predefined and cannot be changed, whereas designers specify the names of data files in the data dictionary.

·    From the System Administration File Management menu, you can reorganize and update your System Directory record in one step.
