Chapter 4-3: Specifying Statements

The arithmetic operator component includes the four basic arithmetic operator signs and two hash symbols:

· + (plus)

· - (minus)

· * (multiply by)

· / (divide by)

· P (hash-plus or -add)

· M (hash-minus or -subtract)

A hash total allows you to validate the accuracy of certain fields. For example, you can sum the numeric equivalent of a customer number field as a check on operator input.
