System Administration and the Data Dictionary

The principal interface between the system administration facility and the data dictionary is security. Security profiles are established in system administration, and serve to restrict access to database-dependent components of APPX, such as the permanent, disk-based files in the dictionary. These profiles are identified by a profile name and a database ID. They are therefore linked to a specific database, permitting you to assign different restrictions to test, development, and production databases, for example.

As indicated in the Database Security section, you implement security in the dictionary by assigning security codes to domains, files, fields, and work fields, which act to restrict users’ rights based upon their system administration security profiles.
