Chapter 2-2: Data Dictionary Concepts
Documentation
APPX provides screens to document each design component in the data dictionary as an integral part of its definition. When you create a data dictionary, you define:
· User documentation for domains, files, fields, and work fields. The text you enter on these screens is the basis for APPX’s online help facility. (User documentation can also be directly maintained using the Documentation Management option from the APPX Main Menu, as described in Chapter 4 of the System Management Manual.)
· Technical documentation for domains, files, fields, and work fields. The text you enter in these screens is the basis for APPX’s hard-copy technical documentation.
Each user and technical documentation screen includes specifications that identify the domain, file, field, or work field you are documenting, and provides 18 lines of up to 78 characters to explain the component. The external copy feature lets you access other documentation records and copy them into User and Technical Documentation screens.
When you enter text on any of the documentation screens, APPX provides a number of editing functions, including word-wrap, text insertion, text redisplay, and end paragraph control. Refer to the User Manual for a discussion of text editing capabilities.
