The Advantages of Using Domains

Domains provide a number of significant benefits, including:

·     Minimization of development effort by eliminating duplicate entry of common field attributes and assumed values.

·     Minimization of maintenance effort by providing a single location from which changes flow through to all related fields in an application.

·     Assurance of consistent database definition throughout the system. The length or edit attributes of the customer number, for example, will never vary from CUSTOMER file, to INVOICE file, to CASH RECEIPTS file, and so on.
