Disk Files (Temporary)

As described in the preceding paragraph, permanent files are stored on disk. You can, however, define temporary files that are stored on disk as well. Temporary files are not shareable between users and not retained after you exit APPX. Note that the system will always take longer to retrieve data from files stored on disk than to retrieve data from files stored in memory. Disk files have an advantage over memory files because they are less limited in capacity.

There are three different levels of interprocess communication between disk files: subprocess, related, and detached. See Chapter 1-5 for information about interprocess communication.
